At Pulau Ubin on the coast of Singapore.
The intensity and volatility of tropical weather inspires both awe and fear. Just minutes before I took this photo, the skies were bright blue and the beach was an idyllic scene. It suddenly changed as distant rumbles of thunder, and rapidly gathering clouds and winds warned me to take my leave.
The palm tree and beach in this photograph are reminiscent of the typical imagery of a tropical ‘paradise’; but their juxtaposition with the imminent storm-clouds, vast and unstoppable, is unsettling.
If I find tranquillity in the beauty of nature, then I am humbled by its power and ferocity.
